Right from the ideation of the platform, the MC team worked closely with IET and collaboratively proposed a unique analytical tool, which was built by Molecular Connections on IET’s research database.
Named Inspec Analytics, the tool enables research professionals to explore beyond literature and uncover trends and patterns across a wide range of physics and engineering disciplines at both local and global levels. With these insights, users can set the direction for their research outputs and monitor the impact.
The IET users were able to use the platform to support their strategic planning in three key aspects, namely, monitoring the research output of one’s institution and seeing how it ranks globally; benchmarking an institution against collaborators and competitors to find strengths and areas for growth; and monitoring global trends for over 14,000 research topics to explore new fields and find collaborators.
Molecular Connections used semantic technology to connect each element of the scientific abstracts indexed in IET’s database to create a knowledge graph and developed a robust AI-based analytical software by leveraging big data concepts. This unique combination of SMEs, data science, and UX expertise allows users to navigate the knowledge map to identify and compare research trends across thousands of organisations and technological and engineering concepts.
IET chose Molecular Connections (MC) for its expertise in rapid prototyping and large-scale data visualization. In addition, Molecular Connections has been indexing the IET’s content since 1994, thereby qualifying them to understand the nuances and intricacies of their subject matter even better. Molecular Connections’ thorough understanding of IET’s content and needs made it the preferred partner.
